GRAMMAR REFERENCE + READER • LEVEL B1+ provides thorough grammar preparation at B1+ level as well as laying a strong foundation for further studies and any examination at B2 level.
The full grammar explanations and wealth of exercises appropriate for this level of the Common European Framework include revision of the most important basic rules of grammar. Apart from the usual grammar structures, special attention has been paid to problem areas such as phonetics, punctuation, prepositions following certain verbs, etc., idioms, phrasal verbs and word formation. The lexicon and idiomatic expressions have been purposely repeated throughout the book in order to make them easier to remember. In Unit 8 there is a revision of all the tenses taught in Units 2 to 7, while Unit 22 is a general revision presented in the form of examination-type exercises. In addition to the grammar exercises, the reading and listening comprehension exercises radically improve the student’s lexicon while giving him/her extensive practice in both these areas of examination preparation. They also help to understand the gist of what the student is reading or listening to even though he/she may not understand every
single word.
The clear grammar explanations make it an ideal self-study book.
The listening comprehension scripts are to be found at the end of the book.
The volume also contains an abridged version of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. The language in the book has been adapted to B1+ level, although care has been taken to alter the texts as little as possible so that the student may appreciate something of the language and style of the original work. Extensive comprehension exercises check his/her understanding of the book.
